Don't Let Storage EAT your Virtualization ROI!
DescriptionLong
Industry analysts have published that 40% to 60% of customer IT budgets are consumed by storage today – to make matters worse, traditional storage architectures can reduce virtualization initiative ROI by 50% or more. The session will include an overview of the storage industry as it stands today, and what you – the consumers – can do to preserve and protect your hard-won virtualization ROI in the future. This will be demonstrated by a real world case study where traditional vendors, delivering legacy storage architectures, ATE fully half of an enterprise virtual infrastructure ROI.
Chip brings over 20 years of experience within the IT, virtualization, and storage industries. As the Director of Cloud Services and Solutions for Ethernet SAN leader Coraid, Chip is tasked with accelerating customer success as they adopt, deploy, and operate virtualization and cloud computing environments. Prior to Coraid, Chip served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps as the technical director for Enterprise Standards and Technologies within Product Group 10 at Marine Corps Systems Command. In this role, Chip was responsible for the identification, evaluation, and introduction of advanced and emerging standards, technologies, and processes to the USMC. Specifically, the Marine Corps Enterprise Virtualization initiative – approximately 2300 ESX hosts, nearly 7000 virtual machines deployed, and almost 20,000 hours of deployment engineering and training services delivered across 167 sites globally – set a number of benchmarks for highly distributed, enterprise-scale, virtualization roll-outs. Chip holds a Master’s of Science in Information Technology Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, and retired from active service with the USMC in 2010.
