Let's Make It Personal: Virtual Desktops for Everyone (Not Just Another Terminal Server).

IT organizations support a wide-variety of OS and application customizations in today's physical desktop world. With the advent of virtual desktops, administrators are looking to simplify and standardize images, patch levels and applications to save time and minimize complexity. End users, however, want the same, personal experience with their new virtual desktops they had with their PCs. How can we get both?  New desktop layering technology – described by some analysts as workspace decomposition – provides the best of both worlds, enabling administrators to support personal desktops, but also standardize application patches and OS levels by sharing images.  Desktops can be easily customized by selectively adding or removing layers from desktops independent of each other.  To users, however, layers appear unique, and are stored in a shared, de-duplicated fashion to drastically reduce the virtual desktop’s storage footprint.  Virtualization expert Ron Oglesby will explain how this all works, with a live demo of Unidesk’s new virtual desktop management solution as an example.
